Moorish Tides was created to showcase the writing of University of New England students under the direction of faculty member Tony David. With his twin passions for biography and history, Tony, now a proud resident of Tangier, took students outside of his classroom and challenged them to write about their experiences and encounters. He was proud of his students’ work and thought of a blog to publish their papers. But Neal Jandreau, our director of creative strategies in global affairs, knew that I won’t settle for anything less than a professional magazine to do justice to the thoughtful and deeply moving essays I was reading.
Moorish Tides is open not only to UNE students and faculty but to anyone who can enchant and enlighten us with tales and stories that help us enlarge the scope of our knowledge and tighten the bonds of our friendships.
